Why The Music Industry?
Short Answer: fulfilling, dynamic, fun
Long Answer...
How I got into music: I grew up in Georgia and was put in piano lessons at the ripe age of four. My dad hoped that music would be a side endeavor; he did not anticipate that I would be taken over by music and what it has to offer.
10 years old: started teaching myself guitar upside down on my dad's left-handed guitar
11 years old: I was gifted a right-handed guitar and started songwriting
12 years old: I began learning the flute in my school band
14 years old: I figured out the rinse and repeat of the piano competition circuit was not for me, so I quit lessons with my teacher and started focusing on ear training and composition by myself. I started developing a relative pitch.
17 years old: I started producing music and invested in Logic.
18 years old: With zero teaching or job qualifications, I managed to secure a job as a music teacher at Bach to Rock Music School. I taught piano, guitar, ukulele, and songwriting classes. I met many teachers, many of whom had years in the music business; talking to them sparked an increased interest in this industry
19 years old: became DJ certified at my college radio and started hosting my own show; wrote, produced, and released my first song
20 years old: Worked at my first Major music festival, interned at Warner Brother Discovery (helped in the advertising process of the company's highest-grossing movie -Barbie!), and started interning as a producer assistant at two recording studios
Fulfilling: Carrie Bradshaw once said "When I first moved to New York and I was totally broke, sometimes I bought Vogue instead of dinner. I found it fed me more"-- music is what feeds me
Dynamic: My parents both had jobs where they were never doing the same thing every day. Their clients and the topic of work were always changing- I think this is why, after many years, they enjoy their job. I like that the music industry is always evolving, I enjoy the chase of figuring out the latest trends, trying to search for artist gems, and constantly learning new marketing/design techniques. Change is a beautiful process to me and I love that this job fosters it every day.
Fun: My first concert was at 6 years old. I saw Demi Lovato with American Idol runner-up David Archuleta and it was simply breathtaking. From the set design to the lighting to the energy in the venue, I love everything concerts have to offer. I adore how this job allows me to constantly be in a space with exploding energy.
